Despite the global economic crisis, shipping companies are still paying top dollar for skilled hires.

Writing in the company’s quarterly Maritime Employment Review, focusing on the technical shipping market, group managing director Mark Charman notes:

“Faststream’s research shows that despite the doom and gloom, there are still positions which need filling and high quality candidates are in demand. Our offices around the globe are still reporting a talent shortage.”

The latest Maritime Employment Review reports that shipowners and managers will pay an average salary of just under £60,000 plus bonuses, to key technical recruits with seafaring experience. Mark Charman commented: “Shipowners and managers are not only paying the best salaries but are also offering the best bonus packages, with nearly three-quarters of new jobs carrying added benefits”.
